The Ventana Wildlife Society (VWS) and Monterey Peninsula Regional Park District have entered into a five year agreement for the purpose of providing a temporary California Condor feeding station at Palo Corona Regional Park.
The Ventana Wildlife Society endeavors to establish up to 10 breeding pairs in the Big Sur coastal region as a result of the expanded feeding program. Temporary feeding sites are being established in hopes of reducing the potential of condors accidentally ingesting lead-shot and lead bullet-contaminated carcasses. It is anticipated that these temporary sites will be replaced in the long-term as the condors take advantage of carcasses naturally found in the area.
