Rancho Cañada Unit Project

NOTE: Pets are only allowed at the Rancho Cañada unit of Palo Corona and currently MUST BE ON LEASH.

PLAN YOUR PARK SURVEY RESULTS

The Plan Your Park Survey results are in and the response was terrific with 270 of you participating. Thank you!

The purpose of the survey was to learn about the features you want developed in the Rancho Cañada unit. It was an opportunity to get your "wish list" of features, design ideas, and suggestions for features that would make future programming and activities possible.

Here is what a majority of you want for the park:

  • experience of nature and protection of wildlife habitat;
  • habitat restoration of the pond with wildlife viewing and ecology education;
  • creation or extension of multi-use trails;
  • a nature-inspired playground designed for ages 3 to 12 to engage in play inspired by natural park elements, with the inclusion of accessible pathways for wheelchairs and mobility devices and with ramps to play structures;
  • an off-leash dog park;
  • an outdoor classroom with a tree-inspired design, seating, and water;
  • picnic shelters by the playground with a capacity of up to 12 people;
  • a bus stop, and;
  • other amenities: restrooms, free entrance and use; seating within the park; water fountains; and shade structures

Some of these are set in motion already! The District will soon break ground on the construction of a bus stop with a shade structure at the entrance to the park and  restroom nearby. Cost estimates for other listed features are being reviewed by the District for phasing possibilities and for submission for the Regional Park Program grant. Stay tuned! We are working on the grant application now for the November 5, 2021 deadline. Notice of the details of that grant application will be posted here in the coming weeks.

If you want to dig into the details, you can go through the results of every question by opening the Plan Your Park Survey Results Slides. Or, for the topline results, read the Plan Your Park Survey Findings Narrative in our Documents section.

Plan Your Park: Your Nature Space - Your Plan

You are invited to share in visualizing the future features of the Rancho Cañada unit of Palo Corona Regional Park. to transform the former golf course into a nature park. The District is seeking your input through a series of "Plan Your Park: Your Nature Space - Your Plan" events over the next few months. We will introduce the community to the proposed services and concept plans which have emerged from the previous two-year General Development Plan (GDP) outreach process.

"Palo Corona Regional Park will be a park for everyone within the nature experience", said District General Manager Rafael Payan.

Palo Corona Regional Park is 4,800 acres of open space managed by the District and the Rancho Canada unit is the launch pad to the park. The Rancho Cañada unit will also be the main location for administration, operations, and services for park visitors.
